THE AFRO ARCHIVES FAQs

How do I access the AFRO Archives?

The AFRO Archives are currently only available for remote research until we relocate to the Upton Mansion. Please submit your research request using our research/reprint request form, and our archivists will follow up with you regarding your request.

I have materials related to the AFRO. Can I donate them to you?

Maybe! We have limited space for new acquisitions, but will occasionally consider taking in new donations. Please email info@afrocharities.org with “Acquisition” in the subject line, and describe the materials you wish to donate.

My family was photographed/written about in the AFRO. Do you have the original image? The original article?

Maybe! While we do have a substantial number of published images and articles in the collection, not everything was kept, and some items have been lost over the years. We will always do our best to track down the information you’re looking for, but sometimes it’s just not there.

Can I buy a physical copy of an old newspaper from you?

Unfortunately, we do not sell physical newspapers or photographs at this time. For copies of newspapers printed within the past two years, please contact AFRO News.

Are there any licenses, permissions, or fees that I should be aware of when requesting material from the archives?

Yes. Afro Charities charges scanning and research fees which go directly towards our operations so we can continue to maintain the collection for future generations. Most of the material in the collection is copyrighted to AFRO News. They charge licensing fees for public use of their materials.
