Working with the team at Afro Charities was such an inspiring and deeply rewarding experience. The dedication of everyone we connected with to the mission of preserving and sharing the stories of everyday people was inspiring and more important than people give it credit for. On a personal level, I didn't know much about archives before this project, but hearing some of the anecdotal stories that emerged from the archives felt like being given a window into the lives of people who didn't have the platform of social media to share their experiences. Especially as as Nigerian immigrant to this country, I wasn't sure how much material they would have for Black stories around the world... but they truly have so much information. And all of it gets care. Afro Charities’ commitment to honoring this history has not only given me a different perspective, but it has also underscored the importance of their work. I'm honored, encouraged, and immensely grateful for the opportunity we had to contribute to the work their team shows up to do every single day.
